Yeast Infection In Children

Yeast infections are very common among children and they can come especially when they are sick and taking antibiotics. Children who wear diapers can frequently get yeast infections from the diapers damp environment. However that cause of the infection with children is the same as it is with adults. The bacteria thrives in warm wet environments, making the mouth and genital region a perfect area for infections to grow.

When babies are born into the new world, they come with a completely sterile digestive system with no bacteria in the intestines, along with a non activated immune system.

Yeast infections in children usually occur in the vaginal or rectal areas.

Causes

It is important to remember that children do not fully develop all aspects of their well being such as their immune system. This is why children receive so many colds during their adolescent life. Children are not developed fully mentally, physically, and emotionally. The susceptibility to infection is based on the fact that their immune systems are still in the process of strengthening.

As good parents take their children to the doctors to have prescribed antibiotics to fight illnesses, this is the very action that is one of the major causes for yeast infections in children. This happens because antibiotics destroy good and bad bacteria within their body. When the antibiotics kill the good bacteria then the body will not have the proper balance of good bacteria for the digestive and immune system. With the absence of this good bacteria it allows the yeast fungus which is present in all individuals, to remain unchecked within the body. This situation allows for a higher percentage of yeast infection for children to occur.

Another usual cause for yeast infection is a high sugar intake found in commercial baby food formulas or unsweetened fruit juices. Cow milk, soy milk, rice milk, and goat mild can increase the total daily sugar intake to fungal growth stimulating levels. Switching a children's diet to water until infections clear is a good idea.

Preventions

The most important prevention to address current and reoccurring yeast infection in children with is building up their immune system. The best way and most natural way to do this is through a healthy diet. The child's diet should include rich natural foods that will provide the necessary vitamins and mineral to ensure a child's full development. There are supplements that include anti oxidants, minerals, vitamins and etc which are also a great addition to a child's healthy diet.

An important tip is to not introduce foods into your child's digestive system that contain elements you are trying to avoid such as fungus, yeast, sugars and mold such as cheese cokes, cider, root beer, and breads (breads unless whole wheat).

For Children with vaginal or rectal infections, make sure that their underpants are worn loose to allow the passage of oxygen. To remove yeast infections from underwear you can place the child's underwear into a microwave oven and turn in on high for 5 minutes.

Treatments

There are prescribed oral medications to help rid of yeast infections. Prescription of over the counter antifungal creams, tablets or suppositories are available.  Different medication can prove to be more effective in treating yeast infections in one individual rather than another. Because of this you may have to try more than one product to see what works best for you.  If symptoms do not generally resolve and clear up within seven days, or it comes back within two months you need to see a doctor.Common medicines that are recommended by doctors include:

• ButoconazoleYeast Infection In Children

The good bacteria help to suppress the growth of potentially harmful organisms.

There are many home remedies that offer ways to help clear up yeast infections with the use of tampons. One remedy is to dip a tampon in plain yogurt containing lactobacillus acidophlus, and inserting it into the vagina twice daily. Another remedy is to make a tampon by felling a fresh clove of garlic and wrapping it in cheesecloth and then tying in with unwaxed dental floss. The homemade tampon should be worm for several hours or overnight.
